A native New Yorker, Richard grew up on the south shore of Long Island. Attending and graduating from North Carolina State University, College of Design with a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture degree, Richard entered the U. S. Army serving as Post Landscape Architect at Fort Sill, Oklahoma and as Platoon Leader, Executive Officer and Commanding Officer of a Company in the Army Corp of Engineers, serving in Vietnam. Upon completion of his army career, Richard began his practice of Landscape Architecture eventually joining Environmental Design Associates, PC in the mid 1970’s. He became a principal in the late 1970’s and has been involved in a wide variety of project types throughout the years. His experience ranges from conceptual design through the approval processes of the various regulatory authorities and to completion of construction efforts.

Richard is a member of the American Society of Landscape Architects and has served as President of the Connecticut Chapter of ASLA as well as two three-year terms representing the Connecticut Chapter on the National ASLA Board of Trustees. This experience introduced him to the varied practices of Landscape Architecture throughout the country as well as the problems and concerns that exist within the profession. This exposure broadened his understanding of the profession and of projects, allowing him to have a wide and diverse approach to project development.

Traveling has also been an important part of Richard’s life. Having extensively traveled throughout Europe, Asia, South and Central America, his understanding of “sense of place and environment” is represented by his exposure to these travels.

Richard is licensed in the states of Connecticut, New York and New Jersey with reciprocity available in other states.
